1 Corinthians 12:7 says, “But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all.”
Our text says, “the manifestation of the Spirit.” The word manifestation is translated form the greek word, panerosis.
It means that something happened, something was revealed; something invisible became visible. In popular culture there is the expression, “she is the truth.” The truth is manifested in her character, behavior; and her love.
Manifestation is disclosure; it is to make know the truth.
Paul says, “Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit (v4). Paul deflects away from the gifts in order to illuminate the source of the gifts. God is the source of our giftedness.
God, who is infinitely present; and all knowing formed, each and every human being in the womb. As God’s plan for our lives took shape in the womb, gifts were imparted that would transcend our individual lives and serve to build up humanity as a whole.
And so, Paul’s focus is on the Spirit, and God’s presence among us, and not the various manifestations/gifts. Our gifts, our talents, our genesis; they are manifestations of God choice to create human beings and imbue us with power and authority of all the earth.
So proud of you Stephen to see you persevering in the word of God and sharing with others.
God Bless you my brother!
